Summary: IFOAM EU Group held a session on ‘A win-win-win partnership: IFOAM EU Group, our financial supporters and the further development of organic food and farming’. The objective of the session was to present the work that the IFOAM EU Group undertakes in Brussels and Europe and to demonstrate the important role that our sponsors have played and will continue to play in our common pursuit of the continued development of the organic sector. 13-14: New EU Regulation for Organic Wine

Summary: The EU Commission is working on the implementing rules for organic wine processing - thus the rules for wine processing were under preparation at the time of Biofach 2010. This workshop was to answer questions regarding the EU regulation on organic wine; What can change for producers of organic wine, trade and the market, and when can the regulation be expected to come into force.

14-16.00: One year New EU Regulation

Summary: The new organic regulation, one year after coming into force influenced all organic operators. The first year implementation should be discussed, where are bottlenecks, where was harmonised implementation not possible?

10-11: Organic Aquaculture - Regulation (EC) No 834/2007

Summary: The first time ever organic aquaculture is regulated in the EU level. What means the new EU regulation for the organic aquaculture production and market? How does it change the private sector that has set up private standards but have now to apply to EU defined standards?

13-15: How much labelling needs the EU?

Summary: The EU is currently discussing different labelling schemes for food on the EU level: new organic logo, animal welfare, Ecolabel, nutrition label, health claims, etc. What is the challenge for the organic when food products need different labels that deliver single benefits instead of a system solution.

15-16: Impact of EU Policies for Organic Processing and Trade

Summary: This conference will discuss the impact of EU policies for organic processing and trade and the improving requirements for additives and flavouring; quality assurance, visions on organic food processing, labelling of food.

16-17: New Challenges, new CAP?

Summary: Whilst EU members states implement the decided CAP Health Check the discussion about the new CAP after 2013 started. What can organic farming contribute to meet the challenges on climate change, biodiversity loss, sustainable use of water and energy? What role plays organic in the current discussion?

Saturday 20th

10-12.00: Certifying Restaurants and Cateres in Europe

Summary: An overview of the European market for catering, the regulatory development at national and private levels and the envisaged integration in the EU regulation on the area. The EU will provide a report in 2011 on how to proceed with organic mass catering. Meanwhile there are existing different national standards.

13-14: TP organics: SRA for organic Food and Farming

Summary: TP Organics, the Technology Platform for Organic Food and Farming developed a strategic research agenda with clear and challenging research priorities, outlining how the organic food industry and farming can contribute to the biggest challenges in food production and trade and what research is necessary.
