Green Week 2007 took place in the Charlemagne Building of the European Commission in Brussels, from 12th to 15th June 2007. IFOAM EU Group was represented in this event with a stand.
This year's topic of Green Week was “Past Lessons and Future Challenges” and was linked with the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. In this context, IFOAM EU Group stand was inspired in the past lessons and future challenges for the Organic Movement, with a focus on the development of Organic Farming in the EU, the EU Organic Regulation and the European Organic logos.
IFOAM EU Group stand was very well located, at the entrance of the second floor of the building, which made it easier to attract the public's attention. The stand was simple and informative, displaying the IFOAM posters about the Organic Principles and providing brochures and leaflets about IFOAM and IFOAM EU Group.
The stand's main point of attraction was a logo-game for the visitors, that offered them the opportunity of winning coupons from Bioshop (an organic shop in Brussels). The game consisted in a magnetic board with flags and organic logos and the gamers had to match at least 7 logos with the flags of their countries of origin to win the prize.
On the stand, the public could also watch a powerpoint presentation related to this year's topic and providing an overview of the organic movement in the EU and the challenges it faces ahead.
There were many visitors coming to Green Week and a large number of them stopped at IFOAM EU stand to play the game, to exchange ideas or to get more information about the organisation and the role of Organic Farming in the protection of the environment. Several media (from Greece, Bulgaria, Belgium...) approached the IFOAM EU Group stand.
The public of this event showed great interested in IFOAM EU Group stand and a large part of it became aware for the first time of the connections between Organic Farming and the environment after visiting it. Therefore, the general impression of IFOAM EU Group of the participation in Green Week 2007 is very positive. IFOAM EU Group considers that it is important to the organisation to be present at this event and to bring the Organic message to those concerned about the environment but unaware of the negative impacts of conventional agriculture in the environment and of the existing alternatives.
