BIO AUSTRIA has developed its own quality
standards and corresponding quality assurance system. This standard stipulates,
for example, that organic feed must be from Austria and may only be produced in
entirely organic animal feed production facilities. The contamination with genetically modified organisms
(GMO) is at 0.1%, nearly ten times lower than the EU standard of 0.9%.
The BIO AUSTRIA logo is mainly used in direct
marketing and in specialized organic shops. Furthermore, BIO AUSTRIA cooperates
with 270 partners in the Austrian organic food business. The main market is the
domestic one, but BIO AUSTRIA is also active in the field of exports. As an
example, BIO AUSTRIA standards and products were recently presented at the SIAL
food fair in Paris.
