This is a series of ten factsheets produced by IFOAM EU Group in autumn/winter 2009 to illuminate the critical role organic farming can play in addressing some of the EU’s most pressing environmental and socioeconomic challenges.

The series comprises an introduction and nine topic sheets.The nine topic sheets each deal with one of the socio-economic or environmental issues occupying a prominent position on the EU agenda, and illuminate how organic farming can contribute to addressing it.

The factsheets were written as a brief introduction to a complex reality, with the aim of inspiring readers to seek further in-depth information.  Here on the website, all the sources used for the factsheet series along with other relevant information have been catalogued according to the factsheet topics; they can be accessed, along with the PDF of each factsheet, by clicking on the appropriate heading.

Source material includes journal articles from a range of titles; reports; books and book chapters; conference papers; and policy briefs.  Some pieces are not exclusively concerned with organic agriculture, but all provide important contextual information.  The collection represents the most up-to-date scientific thinking on various aspects of organic agriculture.  Most of the pieces are available for free online.  All pieces are in English unless otherwise indicated.
