IFOAM EU Group on July 5th, 2012, published a letter proposing the introduction of further requirements for the environment performance of operations involved in organic processing and trade to the Organic Regulation (EC) No 834/2007.

In this concept organic operators should establish a basic environmental management system that could create credibility of organic business sector in a harmonised way and that contribute to the organic self-conception of being a holistic approach capable of offering solutions for society's future challenges.

This letter is an initial position of IFOAM EU Group, which needs further debate within the whole organic sector and requires further elaboration.
IFOAM EU Group is lobbying to include this concept within the upcoming review and evaluation of the Organic Regulation (EC) No 834/2007
