DOSSIER ON THE NEW ORGANIC REGULATION LAUNCHED AT BIOFACH

Nuremberg, 19/02/2009 – IFOAM EU Group launched today its Dossier on the new EU Organic Regulation during the annual organic trade fair in Nuremberg. The Dossier was published by the IFOAM EU Group as a very first stakeholder attempt to give a serious assessment of the regulation and its implications for the organic sector in Europe.

The Dossier was launched under the auspices of the Czech Ministry of Agriculture by the Czech Agricultural Minister Petr Gandalovic, the EU Agriculture Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel and the President of IFOAM EU Group Francis Blake.

The introduction of the new EU legislative framework for organic food and farming - Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 and Regulation (EC) No 882/2008 on the detailed implementing rules - has been in the attention of the organic sector for more than four years. Now that it is in place it is important to make it more comprehensible for the operators in the sector. IFOAM EU Group undertook this task through the publication of the Dossier.
