IFOAM | Organic Poultry Production

The European Commission has re-started the process to improve the rules on poultry production in organic regulation. The IFOAM EU Group contributing to this process published its updated position on poultry production and rearing in May (2012). The IFOAM EU Group is working on further development of the position on the development of poultry production rules in the EU Organic Regulations.

The Expert Group for Technical Advice on Organic Production (EGTOP) has the mandate to provide advice to the Commission and the Standing Committee on Organic Farming (SCOF). After the inaugural meeting of EGTOP sub-group on Poultry (February, 2012), its position will likely be adopted at the EGTOP’s plenary session on June 2012. Built on the report of this session a Commission proposal for amendments of the organic implementing rules to be adopted by the SCOF, can be expected.
