Organic wine - implementing rules
On the 9th March 2012 the European Commission published new implementing rules on organic wine processing. These rules will be in force as of 1st August 2012.
Before that date, there has not been concrete rules for the organic wine processing, which meant that organic wine could only be labelled as "from organic grapes".
It took harsh negotiation between stakeholders and policy makers before those rules were approved by SCOF on the 8th February 2012 (Standing Committee on Organic Farming). Finally, the best possible political
compromise was found. In this regard, IFOAM EU is happy to notice that the IFOAM EU Goup and EOWC proposals on the sulphite level has been approved in these EU Regulation without any changes.
