Montana Sustainable Growers' Union
The Montana Sustainable Growers' Union is a group of local farmers who all farm within a 75 mile radius of Missoula and market in the state. At the heart of why they do what they do is the idea of a local economy, which rests upon only two principles: neighborhood and subsistence. The organization prioritizes the relationship between growers and customers, thus enhancing the value of community and a local economy. Most Growers’ Union members have been certified organic in the past, and some still are. The Growers’ Union provides a local, accessible alternative to organic certification, as well as encouragement for small producers and our customers. The group has twice yearly meetings and annual farmer-to-farmer visits. All members share the responsibilities of holding offices and paying dues. They have their own logo that says “homegrown”.
