Target groups and admission requirements: Open to adults who wish to learn to grow food organically, and/or become an organic producer. No previous knowledge required but must have a good standard of written English, and be able to work in gardens.  Places allocated on the basis of an interview; 15 places per annum.
Training objectives: To provide the necessary training and practical experience to enable learners to grow fruit and vegetables organically for themselves or commercially.
Training program: Eight units of learning all of which must be passed successfully leading to Nationally Recognised FETAC Level 5 Qualification in Organic Horticulture. Training will cover all aspects of growing vegetables and fruit including seed sowing, bed preparation, planting, weeding, pest and disease management, harvesting and soil management. Composting, growing in polytunnels and presenting produce for sale will also be covered. Trainees will also have the opportunity to do additional work experience with another grower / producer.
