Training course: Apprentice Program 2007
Place:Las Golondrinas, Lago Puelo Municipe, Chubut Province. El Bolsón, the nearest town (13,000 people) is 7 km north CIESA.
Training language: Spanish
Duration: Training in “GROW BIOINTENSIVE Food Production” begins in August and ends in May.
Cost: The tuition is US$250 per month and covers the training, the book “Huerta Orgánica BIOINTENSIVA  - Diez años de experiencia” by Fernando Pia,  library and food.
Target groups and admission requirements:
  • The apprentice should read and write in Spanish and have Complete High School studies. Professional University Graduates in Biological Sciences are very much appreciated, especially Agronomic Engineers with field experience with small holders.
  • It is very important to have references from the organization or institution particularly interested in the apprentice’s training to help his/her community.
  • It is very important to have read the book “How to grow more vegetables” by John Jeavons.
  • It is very important for us that the apprentice has enthusiasm and enjoys working in the garden with fruit, vegetable and grain crops. He / she should have teaching inclinations to become a multiplier.
  • A detailed letter with the reasons to participate in a  10-month Apprentice program and what he/she plans to do with the skills which will be obtained during the apprenticeship.
  • The priority is for neighbour leaders who wish to develop community gardens. 
  • The number of apprentices is 4 for growing season (max).
  • An apprentice can extend the program with CIESA approval.
  • The program begins on  August 1st  of each year.. CIESA has the right to change the apprentice incorporation date.
  • The Apprentice Application Form should be send by April 31st .
Training program:
The Apprentice Program has an average of 80 % of practice and 20 % of theory. Classes will be taught by Fernando Pia.

BIOINTENSIVE crops: potato and 30 other crops (chard, garlic, parsley, chives, spinach, tomatoes, celery, leeks, onions, potatoes, chicory, green squash, carrots, zucchini, strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, apple trees, fava beans, barley, wheat, vetch, lettuce, oregano, rosemary, mint, sage,..)

  14. Seed self-production (Basis, bibliography).
  15. Social involment implementing the Grow Biointensive Method in Patagonia
