Training course: 2008 Farmer Training Workshop Series

Place: East Troy, WI, USA
Training language: English
Dates: through out 2008
Duration: half - two day workshops
Cost: $50 - $240
Funding: No

Target groups and admission requirements: The workshops offered encompass a whole farm concept. Learning opportunities begin with the foundation of the farm or, The Land. In these courses, participants can develop a deeper understanding of organic matter and farm fertility. We also offer trainings in the workings of The Farm. These workshops serve as tools for all types of farmers, including topics that relate to pest management, grazing systems and pasturing poultry. Tools of the Trade are workshops that are taking farmers to the next level by teaching profitable practices, and business skills. We are also looking at the intersection where farming connects to its neighbors. The Community represents the relationship that consumers need in today’s society to feel more closely connected to the farms that are producing the food they eat. Traditional farm life skills are taught in hands-on classes that feature, food preservation, baking and soap making.  There is something for everyone from the professional family farmer to the novice gardener, but space is limited.

Training objectives: Our courses are designed to serve as entry points and pathways at every phase of an agrarian life – newly emerging farmers, farmers in transitions even those who have been farming for many years all benefit from courses offered in 2008. We are also creating opportunities for consumers to enter into farm life through cooking, gardening and farm visits.

Training program: Michael Fields Agricultural Institute’s 2008 Workshop Series offers over 40 individual workshops presented by farmers and other agricultural professionals.
