Very interesting recognition for these smallholders and family farming !!

Please keep in mind that the 2014 will be the International Year of Family Farming IYFF), as proclaimed by the General Assembly of the UN and supported by more than 350 organizations from 60 countries on 5 continents, i.e. governments of various countries, under the coordination of the World rural Forum.
.
The objective of the IYFF is to promote, strengthen, expand and maintain in all countries, family farming and family agriculture, involving crop, livestock, fisheries and/or forest types, as a socially needed, culturally acceptable, economically viable, environmentally sustainable, and politically relevant system in all countries and regions of the world.

Through the IYFF, it is expected we will all advocate for pro-active policies in favour of the sustainable development of farming systems based on the family unit, provide guidance to put them into practice, to boost the role of farmers organisations and to raise the awareness on the part of civil society of the importance of supporting family farming. And all this is to fight against poverty, seek food security and food sovereignty, and achieve an active land and agriculture/ fisheries activities based on the respect for the environment and the biodiversity..

The World Rural Forum has outlined a two-year global program 2012-2013, for preparing the 2014-IYFF activities in which we can participate to achieve the objectives and expected results of family farming around the world. .

This is a very well said point and one the world should be listening to. There is enough proof with fact to back it up, now to just get everyone onboard before its to late..
"The worlds conservation first and foremost depends on the respect of local communities’ rights to use and manage their resources sustainably." this is the message we need to play forward. thanks for a great post.

I am so glad that the small holder farmers have shifted from non-sustainable to sustainable farming, impacting the difference between misery and a decent life! I call that TRUE SUSTAINABILITY! I look forward to this happening in our regions too!

I think it is disgusting what mass farming is doing to the environment and ecosystem. Those changes effect everyone, in ways most don't even realize. On the other hand, family farming, or farming to meet needs and needs alone, and not a quota, would shift the way of things back a little closer to how they used be.
