The phase II of the project "Development, Production and Trade of Organic Tea in China and India" is implemented by IFOAM (as the Project Executive Agency), and funded by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC), an inter-governmental financial institution established within the framework of the United Nations. The project was submitted through the FAO Intergovernmental Group on Tea, the Supervisory Body for this project. Partners of the project are the Tea Research Institute of China, the Tea Board of India and the tea industries of both countries.
The goal of the project is to contribute to the development, production and trade of organic tea in India and China. The objectives of the program are the following:
(a) develop on a pilot basis the technology, techniques and systems for organic tea production including the conversion of existing tea gardens into organic tea gardens;
(b) develop an appropriate national certification mechanism that would be internationally accepted and accredited; and
(c) undertake an assessment of the global market for organic tea and develop appropriate marketing strategies.
The project is running from May 2007 to May 2010 in China and from September 2008 to September 2011 in India.
For any question regarding the project, please contact IFOAM's Program Manager, Joelle Katto-Andrighetto at j.katto @ifoam.org.
