The project “Building Capacities on Certification of Organic Agriculture in the Pacific” is an IFAD-funded project, implemented by IFOAM, in cooperation with ICEA. The project, focusing on Organic Agriculture Certification, is a first step toward IFAD’s long-term involvement in Organic Farming in the Pacific. The project will run in 2006 and 2007.
The project aims at:
- Enabling producers of organic agriculture to obtain the certification of their products at a reduced and affordable cost
- Institutionalizing certification capacity either private or governmental
- Developing a set of regional standards for Organic Agriculture products
- Analyzing the existing situation of Organic Agriculture and Fair Trade productions in the Pacific Islands Countries
Series of workshops and trainings will be conducted in the Pacific region under this project. Active participation and contribution from local governments will be a key in the successful implementation of the project. |
