Policy Brief on "How Governments can regulate Imports of Organic Products Based on the concepts of Harmonization and equivalence"
The IFOAM World Board approved in July 2011 a new IFOAM Policy Brief entitled “How Governments can regulate Imports of organic Products Based on the concepts of Harmonization and equivalence”. This Policy Brief synthesizes positions and concrete policy recommendations developed over the years by IFOAM and its strategic partners. Many of these recommendations have been elaborated in the context of the ITF and GOMA projects, and recently enriched by the fact that the IFOAM Family of Standards is now in place and can serve as a key reference for governments to recognize equivalent organic standards. The full Policy Brief can be downloaded here. IFOAM encourages all its affiliates to bring this Policy Brief to the attention of their organic regulators.
