Call for Nominations for the 'One World Award 2010'
International Recognition for People
who Make the World a Better World
The German organic food manufacturer RAPUNZEL NATURKOST AG and the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) start the nomination period for the prestigious international 'One World Award' (OWA).
The OWA promotes positive globalization concepts that combine long-term, sustainable ecological, social and economic development rather than focusing on profit maximization only. The OWA recognizes outstanding engagement and achievements in providing creative and effective solutions in the areas of environmental protection and fair livelihoods.
The OWA honors leadership and innovative ideas of organizations/institutions, projects and individuals. Precisely formulated criteria allow potential nominees to assess if they meet the needed requirements. Self nominations are not possible. Details about the nomination criteria can be found at www.one-world-award.de or can be requested directly from RAPUNZEL NATURKOST AG.

The nomination deadline for the OWA 2010 is February 15th, 2010 (extended).

Five finalists are selected from the nominations: Each finalist receives a 2.000 Euro cash prize. From these five finalists, a prominent jury will choose the 'One World Award' Winner 2010. The winner is awarded a unique bronze statue and a cash prize of 25.000 Euro.
With its more than 35 years of history, the international RAPUNZEL NATURKOST AG is one of the leading German organic pioneers. Inspired by the great success of its HAND IN HAND fair trade program the company launched the 'One World Award'. “The global financial crisis confirms the goals of the OWA. The great positive feedback that we received after endowing the first Award in 2008 are further motivation for me and all those involved in the OWA to continue on our path”, remarks Joseph Wilhelm, owner of Rapunzel Naturkost AG. Wilhelm is looking forward to interesting nominations: “We encourage potential candidates from all over the world to submit their nominations to the OWA”.
Markus Arbenz, Executive Director of the Organic World Association IFOAM, adds: “Every day we hear of disasters but hardly ever of the many pioneers who bring light to our planet for example with Organic Agriculture. The OWA gives a boost to this commitment and provides us all with a wonderful opportunity to see impressive approaches for a better world.”

Lifetime Achievement Award

As the patron of the One World Award (OWA), IFOAM is pleased to coordinate the selection of the 'Lifetime Achievement Award'.
This award acknowledges pioneers and personalities who may have played very active roles in the ecology movement. Candidates should be individuals who have dedicated a considerable part of their lives to pursuing objectives intrinsically linked to ecological sustainability. They may have served - or still serve - as role models, promoting social and environmental awareness, or perhaps they even revolutionized processes or perceptions. As the umbrella organization of a thoroughly diverse membership, IFOAM is open to consider all nominations relating to ecologically sound practices or their promotion.
If you would like to nominate someone who you believe deserves a Lifetime Achievement Award, please submit a 1 to 2 page explanation of why your nominee should be distinguished by this important award. IFOAM will collect, screen and contact selected candidates. The deadline for applying is March 15th, 2010 (extended). Please send your nomination to t.cierpka at ifoam.org
