Farmer John Visits the IFOAM Head Office in Germany (September 12, 2007)
On September 12, 2007, John Peterson, known as Farmer John, came to Bonn, Germany for the premier of the documentary film The Real Dirt on Farmer John at a theatre in Bonn, Germany. This film was the winner of the first ever Reel Current award presented by Al Gore at the Nashville Film Festival, and the film has won awards at awardst 30 film festivals across the United States and internationally.
IFOAM organized and publicized the local event with live music from Leslie Littlefield and a round of discussion together with the IFOAM’s honorary President and President of the German Ministry of Nature Protection Hardy Vogtmann, EU Parliamentarian and Assistant Agricultural Commissioner Friedrich Wilhelm Gräfe zu Baringdorf, IFOAM Executive Director Angela B. Caudle and, of course, Farmer John himself. Bernward Geier, former IFOAM Director for International Relations, moderated the discussion in front of a sell out crowd, which was followed by the film.
Earlier in the afternoon that day, Farmer John and IFOAM Executive Director gave a press conference in the IFOAM Head Office. The event generated a major press coverage, ranging from the main local newspaper the General Anzeiger, to coverage in the West Deutsche Rundfunk (WDR) and Deutsche Welle, among others.
