Organic certification is a prerequisite to the labelling and marketing of organic produce as “organic” in most countries and provides consumers with the insurance that products are effectively grown according to the principles of organic agriculture. In developing countries, group certification of smallholder farmers can be implemented through Internal Control Systems, which are generally cheaper and more feasible than individual third party certification.
