More than 26 Million certified organic hectares worldwide
Bonn/Frick/Bad Dürkheim/Nürnberg, 23.02.2005 - The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), the Swiss Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL, the Foundation Ecology & Farming (SÖL), Germany, will present the new study on “The World of Organic Agriculture – Statistics and Emerging Trends 2005” at the BioFach fair 2005 in Nuremberg, the world leading fair for organic food. Conducted with the support of the fair organizers NürnbergMesse, the study will be presented on Friday, 25.02.2005, at 10 am (Room Brüssel).
According to the study, currently more than 26 million hectares of farmland are under organic management worldwide. This is more than two million hectares more than in the previous year. Helga Willer of FiBL explains that this is an increase of almost ten percent.
