Duration: 4 months (3 modules of four weeks each with assignments during breaks)
Cost:
South Africa: US $500 Per module
Germany: Euro 800 Per module (tuition only).
Funding: Students have to find their own fees or scholarships, and cover transport and accommodation costs.
Target groups and admission requirements: Ordinary level school leavers with good passes in English, and at least three years of organic farming experience.
Training objectives: Train facilitators who can work practically with poor rural communities to promote Organic Farming especially in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Training program: The programme consists of course work around four themes:
- Adult Education skills (facilitation, participatory rural appraisal, experiential learning, assessment procedures, practical field training).
- Technical training in soil fertility and plant nutrition, pest and disease control, community development, agribusiness, planning with communities, logical framework analysis, proposal development.
- Leadership training (Leadership Footprints, assessing leadership styles, accountability, project management)
- Students will carry out community planning processes in their communities as well as three Internal Farm Inspections between Modules One and Two, and will develop a Logical Framework Analysis and full Project Proposal between Modules Two and Three.
